Whitehorse Pioneers 9.18-72 FINAL 11.12-78 Warrandyte
Sometimes in footy you just have to do what you can to take the 4 points.
On the back of a gruelling month we travelled to Whitehorse to take on a team who play a good solid brand of footy and step it up on the smaller ground. We knew we were in for a battle and it is exactly what transpired over Saturday afternoon. There was a very strong breeze to one end and kicking with it in the 1st quarter the boys started well with the opening 2 goals before Whitehorse hit back.
In a see sawing affair both teams played tough and hard football however going in to 3/4 times after kicking 1.5 with the wind and only a slight lead the challenge was on. Whitehorse came out all guns blazing and just when things were looking bleak, down by 5 points and 26 minutes gone, Mitch Wilson kicked a superb left foot goal to hit the lead. 1 more to Jake Moss allowed us to hang on to a gritty win and return to 2nd on the ladder.
We now enjoy a well deserved week off before a run of 3 games leading into finals. Hope all the supporters and volunteers enjoy there week off also.

Whitehorse Pioneers 11.7-73 FINAL 7.3-45 Warrandyte
In a tough wind and covid impacted game, the boys just didn’t turn up to play. After a couple of minutes we had already put two goals on the board and thought we could be on, to let Whitehorse kicked the next 2 against a significant breeze. We ended the first quarter a couple of kicks up but that turned out to be our only lead for the game. From quarter time onwards it was all downhill, second to the footy, not accountable and not the brand of footy that has sat us comfortably on top of the ladder. We lacked a bit of leadership throughout the game and look forward to having Hally, Rancho and Vaughny at the helm to let the competition know we just had an off week!

Under 19
Chirnside Park 8.5-53 FINAL 8.7-55 Warrandyte
Today we took on Chirnside Park away from home, which is 3rd V 4th. Winning this game would pretty much kick the other team out of finals, so the stakes were high, and it almost felt like ‘finals footy’ in the pregame.
In windy conditions, we went with the wind, and the arm wrestle began. Down back, the defenders stood tall, not allowing any easy scores and kicking it out to space for our midfielders and wingers were to run onto it. Miller and brady, were providing great options down forward and were able to put some scoreboard pressure on early.
In the second, we dominated it out of the middle and the ‘bull’ Will Hatfield came to the table, laying some great hits and pressure acts. Sam rucked well and Seth was in and under all game.
Leading into the third, there were some great individual efforts. Habbers chase down tackle in the centre of the ground, to Billy being a great link in the transitioning of the ball.
In the last, we knew Chirnside were going to come and come they did, we trained for this situation on what to do, and the structures held up, winning the game by 2 points. In a great win, there are still some small things to tweak and work on, but we will take the lessons and continue to improve each week by 1%. This group is growing belief and there is some exciting weeks ahead, for this week though, all of our focus now goes to Forest Hill.
