The Club again supported STOP. One Punch Can Kill. in round 9 vs Donvale Football Club. Both clubs came together to support a community free of street and social violence, and all 3 games were played in great spirit.

The club made it out with 2/3 wins, read on below for scores and the full match reports.

SENIORS

Warrandyte: 17 . 9 . 111
Donvale: 10 . 7 . 67

Today we hosted Donvale for the one punch can kill round, with Katarina and her team of volunteers in attendance two teams went to battle. The first quarter saw an arm wrestle with both teams feeling each other out.

The second began with Warrandyte starting to control the stoppages with Tex, Chops, and Bucks creating an immovable force and time and time again giving our runners first use of the ball going forward.

The third we controlled the tempo and kept the ball in our possession giving Donvale no chance to get into the game. Fourth quarter, the big standout was the difference in the fitness level of both teams. We kept running and running when we had the footy but the very pleasing thing was the amount of relentless physical pressure we put on Donvale when they had the ball

It was a great day at Warrandyte on a very special day – very proud of the boys today.

RESERVES

Warrandyte: 5 . 5 . 35
Donvale: 10 .13 . 73

Warrandyte reserves started with a reasonable 1st quarter, showing signs of belief and a good attack on the footy. In the second quarter we failed to show discipline which would end up costing us for the remainder of the game.

There were some great individual efforts on the day from Brewser, Hayden Buyn, Mike Richards, Hunter & Speersy. Unfortunately at the end of the day just not good enough for long enough to get the win.

U19’S

Warrandyte: 8 . 7 . 55
Donvale: 6 . 8 . 44

Conditions were again perfect for football this week. With both teams at nearly full strength this was going to be a good test for the boys, Donvale needed to win to stay in touch with the 2 top teams.

It was a tough encounter and Donvale had clearly come to play. The Warrandyte boys just kept at the Donvale boys, and eventually starting wearing them down.

With Warrandyte trailing by 9 Points going into the last quarter, it was a credit to the playing group to turn it on – not only to win by 11 points but to keep Donvale scoreless in the last quarter.
